- Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)
When choosing an air conditioning unit, you will be introduced to the so-called SEER rating. It will be your basis for choosing an efficient A/C unit. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient your unit is which means greater savings.
- Minimum Efficiency Rating Value (MERV)
SEER is for the efficiency of the A/C unit, MERV, on the other hand, is for the efficiency of the air filters. Air filters with different MERV rating have different features and capabilities. Just like SEER, a higher MERV rating means better efficiency in trapping small particles in the air.
- Compressor
Located outside of your home, this component of your HVAC system plays an important role in raising the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant.
- Heat Pump
Heat pumps function more than what its name implies. It can work as an air conditioning unit for the summer and a heat source in the winter. It is an efficient alternative for furnaces and air conditioners in areas with moderate heating and cooling needs.
- Load Calculation
A load calculation is a process done by HVAC professionals to determine the amount of heat a certain house gains or losses and to know the capacity of the wall and roof to store heat. It is essential to know the right HVAC system for your home and if added insulation is needed in some parts.
- Refrigerant
This active fluid is what makes the air conditioning process possible. Refrigerants are found within the coils of an A/C system which carries heat to cool and dehumidify the air inside your home or workplace.
- Tons of Air Conditioning
This is not about how heavy your air conditioning unit is. Rather, it refers to the capacity of your unit to remove heat in an hour. It is measured in BTU or British Thermal Unit, and one ton of air conditioning can remove 12,000 BTU of heat per hour.
